What is the CFA Charter?

The Chartered Financial Analyst® (CFA) charter is a professional designation (not a degree) issued by the CFA Institute. It is considered the global gold standard in finance and investments education and training. It opens doors to careers in finance and investments across the most prestigious companies globally.

How do you earn your CFA Charter?

To receive your CFA Charter from the CFA Institute, you must successfully complete all the three CFA Level examinations (Level I, II and III), along with four years of relevant full time professional work experience. Internships are not eligible for counting towards your four years of work experience.

Can I do CFA after 12th?

No, a student is eligible to attempt the CFA exam under the following conditions: 1. Be in their last year of graduation OR 2. Have 4 years of investment related work experience. OR 3. Be a graduate (Any field)

I am a working professional, can I start CFA now?

Yes, a student is eligible to attempt the CFA exam under the following conditions: 1. Be in their last year of graduation OR 2. Have 4 years of investment related work experience. OR 3. Be a graduate (Any field)

What is the CFA Exam Format?

CFA exams follow computer-based testing. CFA level I contains 180 multiple-choice questions (90 questions per session) spread over 2 sessions (Morning and Afternoon Session) of 2 hours and 15 minute each. Every question has 3 options with no negative marking. There is a one hour break between the two sessions

When can I give CFA exams?

The current CFA exam windows are as follows:

CFA level I Exam – 4 CFA exam windows in a year – Feb, May, Aug, and Nov
CFA level II Exam – 2 CFA exam windows in a year – Feb and Aug
CFA level III Exam – 2 CFA exam windows in a year – May and Nov

How much time do I need to prepare for CFA Level I exam?

CFA Level I Exam Prep usually requires 220-250 hours of studying time, around 100 hours of revisions and 150 hours of practice including mock exams. It usually takes a student 6 – 9 months to complete it depending on their time availability.

How long does it take to complete all 3 levels of CFA?

If you clear all levels in the first attempt, the shortest time from starting prep to getting your Level III results would be approx 20 months. Most students take 24-36 months complete it.

What are the CFA exam centres in India?

In India, the CFA exam is conducted in 15 cities. Candidates are required to select the CFA exam India centers location while registering for the exam.

Should I do CFA full-time?

CFA Level I prep requires a total of 450 – 450 hours. Spread over 6 months, that requires only 2.5-3 hours of effort everyday at max. CFA as a program is designed to be pursued along with other activities like:
1. College Studies (in case you are in College)
2. Job (in case you are working)
3. Internship related to finance field

Can non-commerce students do CFA?

Yes, you can. In fact a lot of non-commerce students choose to do CFA to shift towards a career in finance.

I am weak in Mathematics, can I still do CFA?

Some commerce and Arts students naturally feel a bit underconfident in Mathematics. This subject has a 8 – 12% weightage in CFA Level I exam. However the interesting part is that it has none of the difficult math topics like Integration, Limits, Matrices, Determinants, etc. It contains relatively simple and practical topics like Probability, Time Value of Money, Mean, Median, Mode, etc. Also, you are allowed to use calculator in all CFA exams.
